New stadium to be built (practically) in our back yard

Last week the city of Monterrey announced the building of a new 55,000 seat soccer stadium to house the Rayados, a professional soccer team here in Monterrey.  This is newsworthy for us because it will be located just one mile from our house!

Time will tell what kind of effect this will have on our community and local economy.  I'm not sure whether to be excited or not because the stadium will undoubtedly cause some logistical problems -- namely traffic.  On the other hand I'm very excited about the possibility of walking to professional soccer games and undoubtedly an occasional U.S. professional football game (NFL) which are occasionally held in Mexico.

Here are some artist renderings of the beautiful new stadium, located at the foot Monterrey's most famous landmark, El Cerro de la Silla (depicted in the first two photos below and at the top of our blog).
